Abstract
Stuttering is a speech disorder causing disruptions to the normal pattern of speech. No known cause or cure currently exists for stuttering. As a result, stuttering treatment methods are more subject to the client’s individual feelings and goals. This thesis will analyze three stuttering treatment methods. These are fluency shaping, stuttering modification and cognitive behavioral therapy. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze each of these methods in order to note specific advantages and disadvantages of each. Additionally, this writing is intended to increase the general knowledge of current treatment methods for stuttering used by speech language pathologists.
