Description
The topic I chose to teach was “Notetaking in College”. Coming to college is hard, especially with the overwhelming workload. Taking notes in college and high school is completely different. Students need to understand a proper, efficient, and organized way to take notes in order to benefit from them. An article by E-student mentions, “Note-taking seems simple but doing it systematically and methodically is essential for academic work, personal growth, professional development, and lifelong learning.” (Holt, 2023). It includes so many benefits like enhancing memory, promoting active listening, improving comprehension, organizing thoughts, facilitating effective review, and so much more. (Holt, 2023) There are many different methods of notetaking and students must find which one works best for them to be successful. The Cornell method, Mapping method, and Outlining method are three examples of effective notetaking strategies. Each method has its own perks; students have to find their best fit to make studying and learning easier and effective for them. (EvolveMe, 2024) Overall, good notetaking is fundamental to success in college. There are many ways for students to maximize their learning and studying abilities with different methods. The goal of my lesson was to expose students to the importance of notetaking in college and introduce them to new or similar notetaking methods to use in their academic careers.
