Description
For one of my lessons, I chose to teach about mental health because of the stigma that still surrounds it. Mental health is a common problem among college students and the statistics on it are quite astounding. This could be for many different reasons: for first year students, students must learn how to take care of themselves, manage school work, deal with the struggles of being away from home, and learn how to make new friends. This can be challenging for many because this is their first time going through this experience. As time goes on, some semesters may get challenging in terms of school work, and other factors. I wanted the students to know that if they are overwhelmed or stressed that they're not alone, and there are many different ways to combat these feelings that are positive and healthy. Students can find different ways to de-stress by creating new healthy habits, or by using the resources that are available on campus. Having healthy self-care strategies can help improve their mental health and they will be able to carry the skills with them for the rest of their lives.
