Description
This infographic aims to observe 4-(cytidine 5’-diphospho)-2-C-methyl-D-erythritol (CDP-ME), a critical intermediate in the biosynthesis of isoprenoids. CDP-ME is synthesized through the mevalonate-independent pathway (MEP), this pathway being most prevalent in certain bacteria and plants. This enzyme (IspE) catalyzes the phosphorylation of the 2-hydroxyl group of CDP-ME and forms the product of 4-diphosphocytidyl-2-C-methyl-D-erythritol 2-phosphate (CDP-ME2P). IspE plays a crucial role in regulating the flux of isoprenoid biosynthesis in cells and is an attractive target for the development of antimicrobial agents.
