Abstract
Gardening in February may seem like a stretch for some of our readers. But even those in the northern climes have but two or three months before the season will be upon us. Actually, gardening is a teaching tool that educators can use year-round to add zest and reality to classroom instruction.
This special issue of Taproot features three articles related to children and gardening. All three pieces stem (no pun intended) from a national Children's Gardens symposium co-sponsored by State University of New York at Cortland and Cornell University. Held on the Cortland campus, several hundred participants enjoyed seminars dealing with ways to integrate a Children's Garden into interdisciplinary learning. Other sessions included presentations on the cooperative, community-based gardening program, the logistics of gardening and the utilization of gardens to reach diverse audiences.
