The topic I chose to present was stress management. As students, there is no doubt that stressful times will come once course workloads and schedules start getting heavy. I have personal experiences with this in the past and want to help my students be educated on stress management concepts so that they can prevent stress as much as possible. The pressure of both games for athletes, maintaining a social life, distractions, etc. are everywhere and can prevent us from reaching our goals. Rather than trying to avoid them altogether, you can train your mind to handle them like a pro. That’s where mindfulness comes in. By practicing mindfulness, we can develop the ability to stay focused and centered, no matter what distractions come our way (Broadway, 2023). Mindful meditation is a practice that is proven to help reduce stress. Being mindful helps you to live in the present moment. This is important for both students and student athletes in order to perform their best in the classroom and in their sport. Meditation is a simple way to practice this. Mindfulness meditation could not be simpler: take a seat, pay attention to the breath, and when your attention wanders, return (Mindful Staff, 2023). Many students are unaware of how easily you can practice mindfulness meditation and how great of a coping method it is for stress. The goal is for my students is to learn the benefits of mindfulness, complete a meditation with me in class and continue to practice it for a week and notice results.
