From the days of the Cortland Normal School to today's SUNY Cortland, this collection highlights the history of commencement on campus. The collection includes materials dating back to the first graduation of 1871 (the school was founded in 1868) to more recent times of 2014. There are two types of materials illustrated online. The first type includes photographs of various graduations. This includes photographs of graduating classes (which also includes the president of the college at the time), and commencement ceremonial images. These photographs exhibit the evolution of commencement on campus. Photographs depicted before 1919 were taken at the previous site of the Normal School downtown. The school was relocated after the fire of 1919 that destroyed the building. The second type includes official college commencement programs. These programs include graduate and undergraduate names and disciplines, schedule of events, Cortland's Alma Mater, special committees, and facility information as well. The official yearbook of the College, first printed in 1926, the Didascaleion, (available in our Digital Commons Collection) also depicts photographs of graduates.
